I have visited the dentist.
I have suffered mortal agonies of body and soul.
I have shrieked in silent despair while dental instruments of torture wreaked havoc in my mouth.
I have obtained pearly white teeth.
I have also read this poem.
And...........
I have quit smoking.
At least I have quit smoking nicotine laden products likely to mutilate the pristine whiteness of my teeth. As to the rest, well I've never observed the teeth of a cow from close quarters as yet but I figure grass can only do a limited amount of damage as far as pearly white teeth are concerned.

What really hurts however is that I have been forced to quit tea and coffee. That me thinks was the most unkindest cut of all. One has suffered much in terms of indignities and heart-felt sorrows but to have to give up tea and coffee and settle down to a lifetime of drinking Bournvita. MUMMMMYYYYY!!!!!!!!

I don't think I shall survive this. First there's impending doom in the form of Hyderabad (and thank ye all fer yer kindly comments......especially my dear ph.......but it's still exile!!!) Then there's the endless rain. No one could be more fond of rain than me. The mere glimpse of a raincloud on a hot summer afternoon would bring briney drops of joy to my unblinking fishy eye, but, but and but..........this isn't rain. It's a minor re-run of the forty days. If there were any particularly long lived animals around I assure you they'd be humming whatever deck songs were the favorites on Noah's Ark.

And on top of all the sorrows weighing down on the little heart, there's the added grief of two term papers, which I have been merrily procrastinating over. Of course I did come up with a brilliantly exciting topic for one of them, but having done so I'm rather stuck for ideas on how to fill in the rest of the several hundred words. Still one has to start somewhere, and the topic I've picked is quite a start. At the cost of shocking my few readers dare I announce my proposed topic for a term paper on Sophocles? I'm dying to, you see......
ok, all those below eighteen please go away
(this is a bit like the please switch off your mobile phones warning, no one pays heed. Still I have done my duty, after this if anyone gets corrupted the fault entirely lies with parents who allow kiddys to sit on the computer unchaperoned)
And my topic is.......drum roll on low key please......
The Erotic Implications of the Recurring Incestuous Patterns in the Mythical Structure underlying Oedipus Rex.

hmm.......what say ye all? any ideas?

Sophocles,as in the writer of Ajax and Oedipus Rex.
Bravo!
i am amazed to see that you can actually choose such a topic in university.
you have made my day even happier :)

"No one could be more fond of the rain than me"
i believe i may just beat you at that.

"I have quit smoking"
yes i know it is harsh but good luck!

Oh and one question.
did the visit to the dentist actually bring you pearly white teeth?
I thought they brought only pain, suffering and and whole lot of silvery cavity fillings.

Heartiest congratulations.

(for having quit smoking and useless liquids like tea and coffee. Believe me, life is much simpler without them.)

P.S. Are you sure you have quit smoking? I mean, are poeple entitled to rewards if they catch you smoking in the future?

oh you don't have to quit... a friend of mine was advised to drink tea/coffee through a straw after she has her teeth done. Its fun, faces contort into the strangest expressions when you ask for a straw with your tea.

I remember reading Oedipus when I was very young. I didn't understand the whole play, but I found it very tragic... nice topic to research...

Why are you so intent on censoring your own posts? Very few people have read Oedipus... I remember this wisecrack claiming that there was an "Ancient *Grik* play" called "HIDIBUS". Apparently there was a "HIDIBUS Complex" too.

Your dental woes have earned you my sympathy.

had gone to amsterdam recently ... they have some really cool grass-y stuff. got my sister an ashtrays that says man made cigerettes, god made grass and also a really cool weed box - its was so exciting cz i had never imagined there were actually shops dedicated to grass out there. anyway, nevermind. if my mom ever saw this she'd chhoto bon er toh barota bajiye chho ekhun ke jane kaar chhotto innocent bachhake bigrachho ;@) just kidding. enjoy the rain while it lasts. it will pass soon. kete jaabe. abt the other stuff are u in college? eng? JU? just idle curiousity. pls ignore if u like. if it makes u feel better its raining torrents here as well - only its also really cold (er) :(

The last time I visited the dentist was because of an impacted-molar or whatever he wanted to call it. My mom called it a kankar-lege-bhanga-dnat! I called it The Painful One. You have my heartiest sympathy.

As for the term papers... do post them when they are done.

someone somewhere : well, pearly white might have been a wee bit of an over-statement. Let's just say they're not brown :D and yes dentist equals pain, suffering and more pain :S

UI : yeah, coffee pangs are unbearable! And I've completely lost count of how many plays I've had to read in the last few years :D

soumik : me thinketh you misunderstood. I wanted to deal with structural analysis of myths, maybe working around with Levi-Strauss. Ideally the Lacanian element should not even enter if my focus is to be on the correlation of the original incestuous cosmic myths and O.R.

dc : we're all in the same boat :D

mandy : an m.a in ju reconciles many people to many things :D

dd : ki prochondo sympathetic approach tor!! aar paper-ta lekha hok, tarpor bhabbo :p

bhooter raja : you, young man, will be entitled to not just one reward but a choice of two. Either I wallop you with that jhooljharu in Tintinda's room or I dunk you in the jheel :D

herenow : panicking over the fact that my Foucault paper is in an unbelievable mess hence totally useless in field of ideas, sorry :S

cassy : waaah! I shall miss you!!!

karuna : most interesting suggestion that was, I must try it someday, if only for the sake of seeing the contorted reactions :D

kanti : thanks for the sympathy and someday I shal post about the Hippopotamus complex which is the animal world's equvalent to Oedipus :D

prerona : I'm in JU, supposedly a post-graduate student, 1st year :D
Idle curiosity is all good but by no stretch of anyone's imagination would I fit the bill as chhotto innocent bachha, definitely not by my Didi's definition :)

sayan : we be joint in our dental woes, and thanks for expressing the interest but believe me term papers will not be worth posting :D

ph : oh glorious day!!! you be the sweetest phantasmagoria I ever met!!

hallio babel. layoff. over. 55 words? wasn't that tag an update in your post? ok now i know. i shall attempt. soon.

Prerona said...

lo. mine is a bachha for me forever. before her isc i used top lock her in my room and tell ma i'm 'teaching her commerce' while i let her read archies - or whatever she wanted to read, actually. thats a big part of why / how i spoil my kiddies ;)

bachha and innocent - both relative. i think, at times, the older we get, the bachha'er we get!

JU? English? Cool! Look forward to seeing you when I come to Cal. I wanted to study english but I cudnt. My little sister is doing English. BA. Xaviers.

You have the company of a lesser intellect, my dear Bab'ly. I've been thinking about comparing Shiva's lingam with Dionysus' and detailing wot each did with their vital organ. I remember Shiva doing quite a bit. Just have to find out about Dionysus- evidence of a couple of orgies here n there should do, not that there'll be any time once I return to Kol. Uhm, sex sells. But then, ADG won't buy :-[ considering that Lacan and Levi-Strauss is NOT stuff I want to trouble my life with.
